PAYBORDA

PayPartner : Driving Growth Through Referrals

Payborda is a fintech product designed to enable seamless global business transactions. Years after launch, the business needed to explore diverse non-conventional marketing strategies in order to stay competitive in the long run. However a question lingered...

How might we effectively leverage individual networks in an affordable manner to increase business sign-ups and transactions?

PayPartner was created as a solution to this need. The team identified an opportunity in affiliate marketing and set out to build the solution, ensuring accessibility and quality aesthetics through the entire platform.

As the only product designer on the team, I was responsible for crafting the entire experience to ensure swift onboarding and user retention.

Research : Competitive Analysis

I collaborated closely with the Product Manager and Developers on the team to sift the features for our MVP which aligned with business goals and our team’s resources. Our priority was to determine Product-Market Fit.

Working in a small team with a tight deadline, my research was limited to competitive analysis. I studied some competitors to understand their approach and what worked.

MVP Features

This analysis guided strategic design choices, prioritizing seamless UX, clarity, and engaging incentives. Following that and discussions with internal stakeholders, we settled on features for the MVP.

  • Quick Withdrawals
  • Real-time Analytics & Tracking
  • User Settings
  • Leaderboards

Overview

I focused on creating an intuitive interface which prioritsed important information for the users. This included an accessible withdraw button and a track of withdrawals and earnings on referrals.

More Screens

With users in Nigeria as our first audience, we wanted the withdrawal to their local currency to be fast and intuitive. This was a consideration through the entire design.

Feedback and Impact

Due to project timelines and business constraints, internal reviews were primarily used for validation:

  • Conducted iterative reviews with key stakeholders, including development and finance teams
  • Feedback led to critical adjustments, particularly in simplifying withdrawal processes and fine-tuning incentive structures.

Although PayPartner was not launched due to organizational restructuring, the design strategically aimed to:

  • Increase monthly referrals and business sign-ups by 15-20%.
  • Reduce customer acquisition costs by approximately 25%.
  • Enhance user engagement and retention through gamification.

Reflections & Learnings

  • Simplicity Drives Conversion: An intuitive, streamlined onboarding significantly improves user sign-up and engagement.
  • Collaboration is Crucial: Regular interactions with technical and business teams enriched design decisions and ensured practical feasibility.
